DESCRIPTION: EPW - David Lestourgeon, verge fusee with mock pendulum, 54mm, silver OF case with incuse "I I" marking, small hole to inner lip of case at bottom allows insertion of a tool to release mvt latch, silver champlevé dial with floral detail at center, KWKS, verge escapement, gilt mvt, two-footed balance bridge with table adorned with a silver and gilt plate having royal crown, raised bust, and Sovereign Orb, as well as glass over mock pendulum, s#1543. David Lestourgeon, a Huguenot watchmaker of Rouen, France, relocated to London in 1681 and became a Freeman of the Clockmakers' Company between 1698 and 1731. We suspect the royal imagery of this piece's balance cock is to commemorate the 1702 coronation of Queen Anne.
CONDITION: Mvt: Ticking but stopping occasionally, hour and minute hands sometimes moving freely as we suspect the hour wheel is lifting at times out of position, overhaul needed, excellent cosmetic mvt condition overall, good gilt tone, short scratches around pillar positions, some fine scratches elsewhere; dial with short scratch to minute chapter at 4, some fine scratches elsewhere, some unevenness to seating of center portion and some green debris evident around its seating; fine hands though currently somewhat out of index and as noted are currently occasionally lifting out of engagement and moving freely; case shows medium wear, a moderate overall patina, numerous dents around rear perimeter, some dings to bezel, button latch with good function though surface of button is crushed, small circular hole within case below 6 position of dial allows insertion of a pin or thin tool to release mvt latch, mvt hinge with some metal loss to its right side knuckle; bow pivots freely and with substantial play within the much larger pendant piercing; good domed glass crystal with some small bits of glue excess to its seat.
ESTIMATE: $2000 - $4000
